Following the successful French Café compilation, Putumayo here updates the French sound, but in a tricky way. The sound on this album is again chanson, the music of the French café culture. Now though, it's the core of la nouvelle scène instead: younger, more world-influenced artists performing chanson with their own touches and flair. The sound is an excellent one. While many of the males evoke Serge Gainsbourg and the females Edith Piaf to some degree, there's a contemporary feel. The samba is more prominent, with lilting acoustic guitars and the occasional homage to Astrud Gilberto. The sounds — once epitomized by Georges Brassens — are given a less folk-inspired feel in favor of a more urban one, but the emotions are similar. There's weariness, heartbreak, longing, and occasionally outright madness inherent in the lyrics and the emotive qualities of the vocals. While chanson is perhaps one of the best examples of a dated music (if one hears chanson, it's obviously in a period format, on a scratchy record, etc.), this compilation shows off what's new. While entirely deferential (and referential) to the old masters, there's just enough updating to create that contemporary aspect, but not so much as to destroy the simple pleasure of French café music. An excellent introduction to the field of French music at large, but especially chanson.

French film composer Francis Lai conducts an orchestra in recordings of themes from 20 of his 100-plus movie scores on this album recorded in November 2009. In this collection, the similarities in Lai's music are emphasized in the arrangements and the playing, tending to present him as a writer of music that is often lighthearted , but always emotional.

Le nouveau film de Xavier Dolan, le petit hipster québécois présenté comme le“nouveau prodige du cinéma ”, sort ce mercredi (29 septe mbre) en salles. Les Amours Imaginaires de Xavier Dolan, suit les illusions amoureuses de deux amis tombant « en amour » de la même personne. Présenté à Cannes dans la sélection Un certain regard, le film présente une mise en scène esthétisante dans une veine pop et colorée, soutenue par des dialogues poilants. Les plus belles scènes du film (de longues séquences au ralenti, un épisode de danse stroboscopée...) sont toutes soutenues par la musique. Malheureusement, la BO du film n'est pas en vente. Moon Safari is the debut studio album by French electronic music duo Air, released on 16 January 1998. On 14 April 2008, Virgin Records re-released Moon Safari to mark the album's tenth anniversary. The limited edition album came with a bound book, a DVD documentary about the duo, and an extra CD with live performances and remixes. Rolling Stone magazine ranked the album #93 on their Best Album of the Nineties list, while the French edition named this album #65 on their list of the 100 Greatest French rock albums. Moon Safari set the stage for the budding downtempo music style and, according to Nielsen SoundScan, had sold 364,000 copies by 2009.
