Ein Flamingo (Phoenicopteridae) steht einbeinig im flachen Wasser am Rand eines Teichs. Mit dem rechten Fuß kratzt er sich am Kopf.
Flamingos haben lange, dünne Beine, einen langen Hals und ein rosa Gefieder. Aufrecht stehend sind Flamingos 90 bis 155 Zentimeter hoch. Im Verhältnis zur Körpergröße sind Hals und Beine bei ihnen länger als bei allen anderen Vögeln. Der Kopf ist im Verhältnis zur Körpergröße sehr klein, ebenso die Füße. Die nach vorne gerichteten Zehen sind durch Schwimmhäute verbunden.
Ein weiteres Kennzeichen der Flamingos ist der nach unten geknickte Seihschnabel, mit dem sie – mit der Oberseite nach unten – Plankton aus dem Wasser oder Schlamm filtrieren. Die Schnabelränder sind mit feinen Lamellen besetzt, zusammen mit der Zunge bilden sie einen Filterapparat.

Das gesamte Gefieder und die Beine des Scharlachsichlers sind leuchtendrot gefärbt. Er wird bis zu 70 Zentimeter hoch und wiegt bis zu 500 Gramm. Männchen und Weibchen sehen gleich aus.

Gelbscheitelamazonen erreichen eine Körperlänge von 35 bis 38 Zentimetern. Ihr Körpergefieder ist grün. An den Flügeln sind aber auch ein paar leuchtend rote Federn zu erkennen. Namensgebend ist der gelbe Scheitel auf dem Kopf.
Die Iris ist innen gelb-orange und außen rot. Um das Auge gibt es einen hellen Ring. Der Schnabel ist überwiegend dunkelgrau und nur an der Basis des oberen Teils zum Teil hornfarben.
