A female sparrow with soft, fluffy plumage sits on a slender branch. The cute little bird is looking to the right. The delicate feathers of the little bird are painted in different shades of brown with loose, soft brushstrokes. The background is painted abstractly in warm brown, purple and earthy tones.
Sparrow meeting part two is an acrylic painting in portrait format hand-painted by the artist Karen Kaspar.
This painting is part of my mini-series of three paintings - Sparrow meeting One, Two and Three. Each of these paintings shows a female sparrow sitting on a branch. Each of these pictures can be hung on its own. However, the three paintings can also be perfectly combined into a triptych and hung together on a wall for a joint sparrow meeting.

It seems this white-throated sparrow was embarrassed about molting and went shopping for a wig 🐦

I originally painted the three sparrows as individual paintings.
Here I have put the three paintings together in Photoshop to create a panoramic picture.
Hope you like it!

Three female sparrows with soft, fluffy plumage sit together on a slender branch and have a chat. The two birds on the left are looking to the right, the house sparrow on the far right is looking to the left towards the other two. The delicate feathers of the small songbirds are painted in various shades of brown with loose, gentle brushstrokes. The background is painted abstractly in warm shades of brown, purple, earth and chocolate. The birds appear calm, creating a peaceful composition.
I originally painted the three sparrows as individual paintings, which can also be found in my collection of bird paintings (Sparrow Meeting parts one, two and three).
Here I have put the three paintings together in Photoshop to create a panoramic picture.

The beginning of a new painting...

First, I searched through my photos taken over the last few years for sparrow photos and printed out a selection for inspiration.

Then I made some pencil sketches as warm up…

Finished just in time for today's World Sparrow Day...

Friendly sparrows on a branch part one - hand-painted watercolor painting

Friendly Sparrows on a Branch Part One is a portrait-format watercolor painting hand-painted by the artist Karen Kaspar.

A delicate watercolor painting depicts a male sparrow sitting on a branch and looking cheerfully to the right. The background features an abstract design with vibrant splashes of pink, orange and blue, creating a lively and dynamic atmosphere. The bright colors accentuate the sparrows plumage and highlight the birds delicate features.

Perhaps the songbird is perched in a garden, in a tree with bright blossoms in spring, or against a colourful sky in the morning or evening. Or is the colourful foliage of the trees already glowing in the background in autumn? Perhaps the bird lives in the city, whose vibrant colours shine in the background.
The abstraction leaves room for your own interpretation.

This painting is part of my small series of three watercolors, each depicting a sparrow on a branch against a colorful background.

My model was originally a female sparrow, but I felt like using some pastel candy colors...
Enjoy!

Sweet bird is an acrylic painting in contemporary square format painted by artist Karen Kaspar. A cute little bird is sitting on a branch and is looking to the right side. The bird seems to be smiling.
The inspiration for this bird portrait was a female house sparrow sitting in a bush in our garden. But I was in the mood for some soft candy pastel colors. So it became a fantasy bird in colorful shades of teal, yellow and pink. The abstract background echoes these colors.

35° and rising. Very little tad of breeze not enough to cool anything. Shimmer of heat rises from roofs.

Local forecast has it for 38°+ this weekend. Mid September. Swallows and Martins still around. Scores of stork nests of which 2 occupied, one each, the rest empty.

Nearest city is 20 miles away and it has the major oil/facility and port. Pipes, tubes, transporting some sort gas which must be kept at -150° or else the gas will ignite, running above the ground mostly. Just imagine... a tsunami...

It’s all about pixels on the bird!

Long and or Zoom lenses are brilliant compensation for a lack of legs… when you can’t get closer to the subject. But you can’t beat nearness.

Here are three bird shots from today. The sparrow was right up close, the kestrel a hundred foot up, and the buzzard way up there. They’re all shot at 600mm but then cropped to roughly the same apparent size. The sparrow took almost no cropping at all, and the additional detail is clear.

Sparrow original crop 8205 x 5470 = 44.8 MPx

Kestrel original crop 2437 x 1624 = 4 MPx

Buzzard original crop 2419 x 1614 = 4 MPs and showing some optical distortion

Even at these reduced (1000 px long edge) resolution images it’s easy to see clarity cannot be cropped in. Get closer, when you can. But don’t climb electricity towers… 😉
