I think it's time for a #reintroduction post. I've been on Mastodon since 2024 and hanging out at The Mended Drum for over a year, and I'm doing a bit of remodeling on my feed. I'd love to make some new friends, and I would also appreciate any hashtag recommendations to follow!

I'm a cis woman of the Oregon Trail Generation living in #Raleigh, #NC, US. Currently a freelance proofreader specializing in deposition transcripts. I'm (lazy) #plantbased, unattached, #nonreligious, sober-ish, and #childfree.

Hi, I’m Ramses Revengeday (xe/xem, they/them, he/him) - autistic composer, artist, cyberpunk, and certified weirdo with two cats.

I make strange music and strange art, plus whatever weird little side quest my brain decides to spawn next. Sometimes that means music for games, series, documentaries, commercials, or TV stuff. Sometimes it’s just me chasing a sound at 3am because it felt haunted in the right way.

Music-wise, I’m into Drum and Bass, Neurofunk, Dubstep, Techstep, Metalstep, Cinematic stuff, and anything that sounds like a broken machine trying to feel something.

Art-wise, I mostly do XBIN, ANSI, and ASCII - lots of 90s/2000s anime energy, cyberpunk, retro tech, terminal vibes, and digital garbage.

I have a long interest in East Asian languages (CJK) and Unicode. I post mostly in English here, though occasionally in Japanese or in mixed-script Korean (國漢文混用體), a traditional writing style that interleaves Chinese characters with the native Korean alphabet. It may be time for a re-introduction: I'm Elena, an Italian creative (writer, photographer, filmmaker) living in Paris, France.

You may have initially gotten to know me for my advocacy for the Fediverse (like my Fedi intro video: https://blog.elenarossini.com/fediverse-video/ or my blog or my Fediverse stock photo). So, you may have been a bit confused lately, over all my critical posts about the new network W Social. Why do I keep bringing it up?

I believe that W Social - and its required, companion app W Identity - are an existential threat to the Fediverse. So I'm fighting tooth and nail to oppose and resist them.

Why? The European Commission has enthusiastically embraced this new hard fork of Bluesky that requires age verification. Even Ursula von der Leyen advertised the launch of W Social in between G7 meetings last week.

I have MOUNTAINS of evidence of poor planning, extremely lax security, use of U.S. Big Tech platforms for something that purports to be "based in Europe, for the world."

Why is it a threat for the Fediverse? The only way to make sense of the European Commission's embrace of this platform is that maybe it sees it as a trial run for MANDATORY age verification for social media across the European Union.

No Fediverse app has infrastructure in place to comply. And if a mandate is introduced, it would spell the end of the open social web and internet anonymity... like Chat Control, but basically killing the Fediverse.

I find it EXTREMELY disturbing to see the enthusiastic embrace of W Social by the European Commission. It took them YEARS to change their website footer and add Mastodon and Bluesky instead of X. In the span of 5 weeks, they replaced the Bluesky logo (a butterfly) with the "W" from W Social.

All my posts about W Social from last week went viral. My articles have been quoted in articles in French, Dutch and German news sites (https://blog.elenarossini.com/tag/w-social/).

I have held back from sharing more evidence I found because I don't want to appear like a bully who promotes pile-ons. I'm a nice, sweet person, I promise! I take ZERO pleasure in writing about W Social, but I have unwittingly become an expert on them - after researching them for 5 months. So here I am.

I will keep investigating them. If you don't want to hear about this topic anymore - I would understand - you can mute the hashtags #Wsocial and #DubyaSocial (that's a pretty apt way to describe them IMHO).

I’m an old guy who chooses not to retire because what I do is so much fun. Why would I stop doing something I love?

I’m safe to be around in the Fediverse, regardless of your ethnicity, gender identity, age, whatever. You be you; that’s important.

Self-employed since 2003. I do remote English-speaking tech support for small business and residential clients. “Your personal Help Desk.” I do a lot of tech support for the elderly. It’s still a small percentage of my total revenue, but it’s worth mentioning here. If you have an aging relative and don’t have time to take care of their technology questions, I’m happy to help. I charge by the quarter hour, and a lot of problems can be taken care of pretty quickly.

Taught college courses in IT, cybersecurity, telecom, and wireless engineering evenings and weekends for 17 years in addition to working during the day. I still occasionally teach technology to engineers and technicians at companies around the USA.

Sometimes companies need an outside expert, not a full-time hire, with deep knowledge and experience for a few hours or a week to get their internal team pointed in the right direction. Most of it can be done remotely, but I also fly to your location. If you’re not in the greater Seattle area, having me come on site will cost a minimum of $6k/day. And yes, companies really do pay me that.

Mostly I toot about the same things I do for money: information technology, cybersecurity (infrastructure, policy, training – not coding), wireless systems, and telecommunications.

I’m not here for politics, and no, I’m not flirting with you. Let’s just enjoy technology and humor about technology together.

My main comic project right now is a historical YA comic called Seeds of Spring, with the writer Christoper Coquard. It's the the biography Peter Kropotkin, a former russian noble turned anarchist, told from the prespective of a current day tennager, learning to reconnect with her Mi'kmaq heritage, with the help of her grandparents. Dig if you will the 1001 Other Albums project, a collective effort of over 130 Fedizens to create "The List" of over 1001 recommended and often over-looked albums from all genres and more than 115 different places/peoples (https://1001otheralbums.com/the-list/)! Think "1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die", but, like, NOT just Western pop. We chose these albums not because of popularity or influencers or algorithms, but rather because they’re important to us personally as Certified Major Music Nerds™️ and/or represent bands/genres/peoples not given enough love in 'official' lists.

As part of the project, for the last 2.5+ years we've featured an album from The List every few days on the 1001 Other Albums blog (https://1001otheralbums.com/). These spotlights are written by either guest Fedizen contributors or project steward @buffyleigh, and are automatically cross-posted in full to the Fediverse at @1001otheralbums.com. New spotlights are also hand-summarized and linked here on linernotes.club. The plan is to eventually look at every album on The List, and so far we’ve spotlit 270 albums! Sometimes we also do some extra fun things like Fedi-wide AOTY lists, fake festivals, and Fedi-sourced oral history posts.

Everything in the 1001 OA project - The List, the spotlights, the summaries, the header images, the alt text, etc. - is conceived, developed, and constructed using human intelligence only.

Hello (again), after a brief posting hiatus and a search for somewhere to migrate to, I am back on Mastodon! I've been on the fediverse since 2023 but grew tired of the mastodon.social experience and felt like it was time to spread my wings.
