A few hours of summer are left...sad for the end of watermelons and peaches, but I'm so ready for autumn.

Boletus edulis or Porcino mushroom, a delicacy

#nature #naturephotography #mushroom #mushrooms #fungus #fungi #heather #autumn

A vertical photograph of a reasonably large Boletus edulis mushroom. The mushroom has a domed dark brow cap that is white right at the edge and a lighter stem that darkens further up and has a webbed or striated appearance.

The mushroom grows under a heather shrub with green leaves and a few pale flowers.

Some grass grows around the mushroom and the background is out of focus and heavily vignetted.

The white tower

#nature #naturephotography #mushroom #mushrooms #fungus #fungi #moss #mosstodon #autumn

A close up photograph of a white mushroom. The mushroom is quite small, but not tiny, with balanced proportions between the slightly bent white stalk and the white cap. The cap is almost flat at the top and with rounded sides, its edge pointing straight down creating an umbrella shape. The slightly jagged edge hints of gills un the underside, that cannot be seen in the photograph. The cap is translucent enough to give just a hint of light shining on the stem under the cap.

In front of the stem is some green moss, in sharp focus

The background is entirely out of focus. It is green, brightest behind the mushroom and fading away to darkness around the edges.

Moss Meets Mushrooms. https://buff.ly/lJuF16G

#Photography #Nature #Mushrooms #FungiFriday #WoodlandPhotography #mycology

A close-up photograph of a cluster of small, smooth, pale cream and tan mushrooms growing directly from a moss-covered fallen log. Several slender, curved stalks rise together, crowned with rounded caps that have slightly darker centres. Lush, bright green moss clings to the decaying dark tree bark below. The background is softly blurred into deep forest greens and earthy tones, creating a calm, damp, and atmospheric woodland scene.

Inspired by the absolutely incredible photos of #fungi 🍄 posted by the ridiculously talented @arcturus recently, I took a shot when I ran into a shocking profusion of #mushrooms on my hike a couple of days ago. Alas, my very first #FungiFriday will also have to be a #shittember post. Even though I took dozens of photos, I got nothing I was hoping for. In fact (and I'll blame this on my exhaustion, the waning light, and my lack of eyeglasses), I'll be perfectly honest: I thought I was focusing on the mushroom in the foreground. 🤣 Anyway, here it is...

Mushroom Among Pine Needles

I’m not sure when I took this image of a mushroom. I almost deleted it, but then the details came into focus. There’s a lot happening in the scene, and if you look closely, you might even spot a snail.

By order of the Galactic Empire, your presence is commanded at my photo gallery:

"This captivating image features a single mushroom nestled amidst its natural surroundings. The mushroom stands out against a backdrop of dry, brown pine needles, its presence both delicate and resilient. Its cap is broad and slightly domed, exhibiting a light brown hue with small white spots speckling its surface, creating an intricate pattern. The sturdy, white stem emerges confidently from the pine needle bed.

The natural setting is beautifully composed: the dry pine needles form a natural carpet around the mushroom, providing a supportive base for its growth. Meanwhile, green leaves from nearby plants encroach into the scene, adding a touch of vibrancy to the otherwise earth-toned setting.

In the bottom left corner, there’s an artistic watermark that reads “© Swede’s Photography.” This subtle addition adds to the overall aesthetic appeal of the photograph, capturing the essence of nature’s quiet beauty." - Microsoft Copilot with edits

Greetings from Narnia!

We continue to find pinewood king bolete #mushrooms but they're still exceptionally rare and the aftermath of the nearly 4-month drought through the summer continues. Chance finds in our walks are rare and far between and only sparse secluded spots that we pinpointed the previous years remain loyal.

But the word that they can be found had spread among Narnian people by now so the forests are full of frustrated foragers carrying empty baskets. Thing is, these are symbiotic mushrooms. They still persist underground in same locations they could be found the previous years but they're unlikely to produce fruiting bodies in abundance where their host trees struggled for so long and are still recovering from the stress of the prolonged drought. And that's regardless the spates of rain we had recently. So the chance of success can be evaluated from afar even just by visually examining health of their host trees.

Saprophytic species can be found much easier however as they feed on decaying matter and those include some rather tasty members so just adjusting expectations and maybe expanding the list of sought after species a bit could let them avoid the occasional forager frustration in the future. Just a kind suggestion 😉

Send me your Fediverse mushroom resources! I've been integrating culinary mushrooms like maitake and lion's mane as well as medicinal ones like dried turkey tail into my diet after some recent personal medical drama — I want to do whatever I can to boost my immune system in the aftermath.

There are lots of 🍄 related groups on Facebook that have taken over my feed there, but I don't know what exists here yet.
