Fungi & Moss

#FungiFriday #Mosstodon #Mushtodon #Nature #Photography

A cluster of small, slender mushrooms growing out of a thick carpet of bright green moss. The mushrooms have thin, pale white or cream-colored stems and bell-shaped to slightly conical caps that are a warm, moist-looking brown or tan color, with some having darker centers.

A beam of sunlight illuminates the mushrooms and the moss, creating strong highlights on the wet-looking caps and stems, and casting deep shadows that add to the atmosphere of the image.

A photo from 2023 of a #mushroom that grew so big it started splitting at the edges for #FungiFriday.

Looking down at a pale yellow mushroom. Its slightly darker edges are split regularly all around by white lines where the outer skin has split.

I posted a looping gif of an oyster mushroom releasing its spores and a lot of people liked it, so I thought I'd mention I put up the original unedited footage in 4k on my YouTube.

Like something you’d see in the pastry case.

Varnished Polypore, Hemlock Reishi
[Ganoderma tsugae]

#FungiFriday #Mushrooms #Mushtodon

A dozen shelf mushrooms, ranging in size from 5-10 inches and an inch high, grow from the bottom of a dead hemlock. The mushrooms are quite fresh. Their colors bright and glistening. The inner attachment to the bark of the tree are a deep brown/red, transitioning to yellow and then to a creamy white at the edges. In most of the mushrooms the edges are somewhat billowy at the edges and more sunken toward the tree.

A vintage-style sepia photograph, presented as if on a film strip with sprocket holes and artificial scratches, captures a concentrated moment. Cynni is crouching on natural, rocky terrain among sparse bushes at Burgers' Zoo, fully focused on framing a picture. They look intently through the viewfinder of a black Nikon Coolpix P500 digital bridge camera, which they hold firmly with both hands. Their expression is one of deep concentration as they peer through the lens. Their left arm, featuring a complex stylized text tattoo, is bent, and a few rings are visible on their fingers gripping the camera body. They wear a dark short-sleeved t-shirt, camouflage cargo pants, and a dark baseball cap with white sunglasses perched on top. A Nikon-branded camera strap hangs around their neck. The background is a natural-looking zoo enclosure with other blurred figures of visitors visible in the far distance. The composition is a candid, close-up shot emphasizing their focus.

Spotted this cluster of mushrooms resting along a damp mossy bank today. Funnel fungi or something else? Drop your ID ideas below!

#photography #Nature #Woodland #FungiFriday #MushroomSpotting

A close-up photograph of wild mushrooms growing out of a steep, bright green mossy bank in a woodland setting. In the foreground, a single, smooth, pale tan mushroom cap sits facing upward with a shallow depression in its centre. In the upper left background, a tiered cluster of lighter, cream-coloured mushroom caps sprouts horizontally from the slope among tangled dark twigs and fallen pine needles. The natural lighting is soft and diffused, creating a cool, damp forest mood.

Several slender, curved stalks rise together, crowned with rounded caps that have slightly darker centres. Lush, bright green moss clings to the decaying dark tree bark below. The background is softly blurred into deep forest greens and earthy tones, creating a calm, damp, and atmospheric woodland scene.

A top-down, close-up composition of a tight cluster of mushroom caps.

Multiple golden-brown and tan mushroom caps packed closely together, filling the entire frame from edge to edge.

The caps display a smooth to slightly textured surface with darker gradient shading around their margins, subtle spots, and gentle indentations at their centers.

Inspired by the absolutely incredible photos of #fungi 🍄 posted by the ridiculously talented @arcturus recently, I took a shot when I ran into a shocking profusion of #mushrooms on my hike a couple of days ago. Alas, my very first #FungiFriday will also have to be a #shittember post. Even though I took dozens of photos, I got nothing I was hoping for. In fact (and I'll blame this on my exhaustion, the waning light, and my lack of eyeglasses), I'll be perfectly honest: I thought I was focusing on the mushroom in the foreground. 🤣 Anyway, here it is...

This picture shows why the fly agaric is called the fly agaric. 🪰🍄 Mostly just called #toadstool in english speaking countries, as far as I know.

I took this photo whilst on a lovely hike in the Bernese #Alps in #Switzerland 🇨🇭 near the famous peaks 🏔️ Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.

In the woods behind my house I have discovered the largest shelf mushrooms I have ever seen. I'm trying to use my hand for scale here but that doesn't do it justice. These things are enormous. I returned from a work trip today and it looks like I might have caught them at their peak. #FungiFriday #mushroom #northernillinois #photography #scale
