This #ArborDay, a reminder that trees aren't just important for the environment.

Tree loss can create the conditions for humans and virus-infected animals to collide — meaning the next deadly pandemic is just a forest clearing away.

Unreality

#blackandwhite #monochrome #fog #forest #photography

Black and white photograph of a forest of leafless birches and evergreens on one side of a hill, with snow on the forest floor and low fog right in the middle. A light spiral filter was applied on the picture, creating a torsion in the fog and bending some trees.

I've been looking at this picture for weeks, unsatisfied and not knowing what I would do with it. I woke up too early this morning, feeling like reality is distorted and bent under human will. This picture is still real but has something wrong, like it might break.

Path

#fotomontag #monochrome #blackandwhite #forest #winter #photography

Black and white photograph of a snowshoe trail in the forest, passing between two rows of neatly planted spruce trees, almost creating a tunnel. The sun is filtering through the branches. Let's imagine an allegory on life as the path is very straight but the destination quite unclear, the other end of the tunnel being blocked by the branches.

pines and lines

#forest #trees #quebec #photography

Photograph of the forest at the edge of a road (not visible), showing red pines with long, straight, pale gray trunks, their middle branches pruned for the installation of power lines. Five power lines cross the top of the image, in front of the trees. Behind them, the higher branches of the pines have dark green needles, with the white sky visible through them. Below the power lines, the forest is denser, with lower branches bearing long green needles, small green spruce trees, and red-twigged red-osier dogwoods growing among the larger trees.

Black and white photograph of a calm lake very early in the morning, with hills on the horizon reflected in the water, a clear sky, and barely a few ripples on the water's surface. A large coniferous tree frames the photo on either side, as do small, bare shrubs at the bottom.
