Then several flies feeding on the ivy:

A common drone fly (Eristalis tenax; 🇩🇪 Mistbiene [not as pretty as it sounds]), which are frequently seen in my garden, & a male face fly (Musca autumnalis; 🇩🇪 Herbstfliege), quickly & poorly grabbed with the wrong camera settings before it flew off 🙈

A large drone fly seen side-on on an green ivy flower. The fly has a white face, black compound eyes, and hairs all over its head. The thorax is likewise very golden hairy over a dark bronze. The abdomen is black and gold, tapering towards the end, with many fine white hairs. The legs are dark, albeit with golden hairs on the hind femora and tibia – this is a marker for E tenax relative to most of the other Eristalis species.

A shaky picture of a small fly seen from above on closed yellow-green ivy flowers. The fly has red compound eyes close together, marking it as male. The thorax is black with longitudinal grey stripes and black bristles. The wings are clear with hints of amber towards the base. The abdomen is black and yellow, with a black stripe running towards the tip which is black and white with relatively small black bristles.

Sorting Memories

#ThrowBackThursday #Alzheimers #Caregiving #Dementia #Photography

A scattered collection of old, physical photographs from a family's photo album, depicting scenes from different periods of life, particularly childhood.

The overall impression is one of nostalgia and family memories, captured in a time before digital photography was common. The photos are arranged in a casual, overlapping pile, suggesting someone has just gone through them.

A large flock of sheep in a misty, atmospheric landscape.

The sheep are mostly cream or off-white with thick, shaggy coats. There are several dark-faced or entirely black sheep interspersed throughout the group, adding contrast.

Heavy fog or mist dominates the upper half of the frame, obscuring the distance and creating a moody, somewhat mysterious aesthetic

Macro photograph in black and white with a slight sepia tint of a very delicate snowflake with perfect symmetry standing upright on a pile of other white snowflakes at the bottom of the photo, and standing out against a dark grey background at the top of the photo.

A black and white photograph with a sepia tone shows a swing suspended by two ropes from a large white pine tree, viewed from above and behind, facing a still completely snow-covered landscape. A bit of ice and sleet clings to the wooden seat, giving the impression that the warm days of summer are still a long way off for this swing.

A black and white photograph with a touch of sepia, showing dried, dead clematis flowers shaped like small, fuzzy pom-poms on their twining stems, hanging in the air from a small branch. Snow and water droplets glisten in the sunlight on the flowers. Other flowers are blurred in the background, along with light filtering through the branches.

A black and white photograph of two large trees standing very close together on a snowy field, shrouded in thick fog. The tree on the left is a conical spruce, its trunk split into two smaller and fairly symmetrical trunks. The tree on the right is a larch, smaller and barely visible in front of the spruce. Behind them, leafless tree silhouettes disappear into the fog.

Took a while to get this shot. Naturally, all the best lightning strikes were happening just out of frame behind the rooftops 😆.

A nighttime photograph showing a deep purple sky illuminated by a distant thunderstorm above a residential area. In the top right section of the sky, a thin, jagged bolt of lightning streaks downward. Below the sky, dark rooftops of houses are silhouetted, with one house lit in a soft pink glow on its side. In the background, city or shore lights glisten across a calm body of water.

Vibrant azaleas in full bloom are captured under bright sunlight, showcasing their white petals with pink accents. The surrounding green foliage adds to the composition's lushness.

The image shows a lush cluster of blooming azaleas with large, delicate white petals with vibrant pink speckles at their centers. The flowers are in full bloom, creating a striking contrast against the deep green leaves surrounding them. Sunlight brightens the blossoms, highlighting their soft texture and the intricate details of the stamens, while a brilliant blue sky peeks through the background. The overall scene radiates freshness and the beauty of springtime in full flourish.

Wise or foolish?

Black and white photograph of three figurines on a windowsill, with the sun shining from behind them. They are three small, bald, smiling Buddhas sitting cross-legged, representing the Japanese proverb "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil." The one on the left is covering his ears with his fingers, the one in the middle has his hands over his mouth, and the one on the right is covering his eyes with his hands. Sunlight filters through the screen of the window behind him. Trees are visible outside.

Bird Dancing on the Line - Animal Photograph Copyright 2018 Frank J Casella
A Pigeon runs back and forth over the yellow safety line on a train platform in Chicago, Illinois.

In life, there are times when we need to draw the line if nothing else than for our own health and safety.

Whether it's the noise of the news media, or the internet in general, or politics, it's important to know where we stand or we'll fall for anything.

We build strong character and peace of mind when we stay on our side of the line that we draw for ourselves.

Enjoy your day.
