Here’s a photograph from Saturday morning following the prescribed burns in the Elk Prairie area of Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park. The photo shows three crew members in yellow, black, and red (lower left) at the edge of a tan, gold, and green grassland area, next to the trunk of a spectacular redwood tree (rising from the lower right and disappearing from view in the upper right). The remainder of the background is primarily green needles and leaves from a variety of different trees and shrubs. Prescribed burns are conducted at Elk Prairie as one element of park management.

Coastal cleanup activities going on today in Redwood National and State Parks. The morning was absolutely beautiful - quite a day to celebrate National Public Lands Day. Here’s a very interesting history of Coastal Cleanup Day https://www.coastal.ca.gov/publiced/ccd/history.html Learn more about the day at https://www.nps.gov/subjects/npscelebrates/public-lands-day.htm and https://www.neefusa.org/what-we-do/conservation/national-public-lands-day and #npld #nps #nationalparks #ocean #publiclands #photography #landscapephotography #coast #pacific #redwood #coastalcleanupday Image credit Kurt Angersbach / Westernlabs

National Public Lands Day activities today included coastal cleanup in Redwood National and State Parks. The day was absolutely beautiful, especially the morning hours-sun, clear skies, no wind, and a very reasonable tide. Thanks to everyone for supporting our public lands! (This photograph, from the Kuchel Visitor Center entrance, shows a portable sign announcing coastal cleanup day, which is illustrated with a pair of park visitors gathering trash.)
