A quiet afternoon at the river.

Yarra River Trail, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

A photograph shot at a distance across a gently rippled river. On the other side of the river on the stone-brick river bank is an asphalt trail with three bicycle riders evenly spaced riding towards the right, with a younger rider leading at the front on the right. Cutting diagonally from the centre left to the middle-upper right is another asphalt trail which joins on (at the lower left), and there is a pedestrian walking down this trail. The pedestrian is positioned in the photograph between the centre and right-most cyclist, and the pedestrian's feet are at about the chest-level of the riders. The rest of the land is evenly-coloured green grass. There is a sign to the left of the left-most cyclist that says "CAPITAL HILL TRAIL." At the top of the grassed area is a road, with poles and parked cars. There is another trail at the road level with some more pedestrians on the left of the frame. In the background are trees with muted-colour leaves and a gentle dirt hillside.

📖 New chapter: “The Tracks to Tillamook”
On Day 9 of my Oregon Coast Trail adventure, I ditched the guidebook and followed a path less traveled. It was another brush with serendipity, unexpected beauty, and a heart-pounding test of courage I never saw coming.

Let’s just say I REALLY I earned my ice cream!

A black and white photograph of a forest path that resembles a corridor, almost a tunnel, with two rows of tall conifers on either side. The trees are black spruce, with their lower branches bare and needles only in their upper parts. The ground is covered with dead leaves.

Here’s a photograph from Saturday morning following the prescribed burns in the Elk Prairie area of Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park. The photo shows three crew members in yellow, black, and red (lower left) at the edge of a tan, gold, and green grassland area, next to the trunk of a spectacular redwood tree (rising from the lower right and disappearing from view in the upper right). The remainder of the background is primarily green needles and leaves from a variety of different trees and shrubs. Prescribed burns are conducted at Elk Prairie as one element of park management.

Evening on the trail, Sleeping Giant State Park, Hamden, Connecticut. August 23, 2024, 7:04 PM.

Walking a trail through a lush hardwood forest on the side of a mountain. The sun is sinking low in a soft blue evening sky, shining an orange-tinged light through the trees ahead. The footpath is a swath of dark brown earth and small gray rocks, while the surrounding forest floor is blanketed in grass, ferns and small leafy plants. A large fallen branch lines the trail to our left.
