January sunset at Twin Lakes - If it hadn't been so cloudy that evening, perhaps I would have seen the conjunction of planets I was looking for. But the ice on the lake, shimmering in the setting sun, made up for it. Abstracted during processing wth a slight blue toning.

Sunset Cliffs
Sunset Cliffs in San Diego is a stretch of rock on the shore of the Pacific Ocean in the Pt. Loma area of San Diego California.
Along Sunset Cliffs Blvd are many homes that enjoy this million dollar view.
Certain areas of the cliffs have undeveloped trails that will allow access to the Pacific Ocean but they can be dangerous if one is not careful.

Sunset Cliffs

The scene opens with the Pacific stretching out like a sheet of molten glass, its surface softened into a silky blur by the long exposure used just before sun down. The waves don’t crash so much as breathe—broad, misty strokes of white and pale blue that glide around the base of the cliffs, giving the water an almost dreamlike stillness.

The cliffs themselves rise in warm, rugged tiers—sun‑baked sandstone glowing with earthy golds, russets, and muted ochres. Even in the low light, you can feel the heat they’ve stored from the day, radiating back into the cooling air. Their edges are sharp in places, softened in others, shaped by years of wind and salt. You can almost smell the mineral tang of the rock mixing with the ocean’s briny breath.

Above, the sky holds that fleeting pre‑sunset hush—soft, diffused light that wraps everything in a gentle calm. The colors haven’t yet ignited into full sunset fire, but the cliffs are already beginning to shift tone, catching hints of amber and rose as the sun sinks lower toward the horizon .

There’s a sense of quiet solitude here. No people, no movement—just the rhythmic pulse of the ocean below and the vast openness of the Pacific stretching outward. The long exposure smooths the water into a serene, almost meditative surface, contrasting beautifully with the textured, time‑worn cliffs.

The whole image feels like a held breath—nature poised between day and night, motion and stillness, power and peace.

Photograph of the infamous Luna Park at golden hour showing its reflections and the sunset sky in the harbour / harbor. I captured this image towards the end of the festivities of the Australian Navy Centenary in October, 2013.

Golden hour can have so much power and make photographs look seemingly different to their normal daytime view. I await this time of day for the amazing light/glow and hue that the sun offers our planet Earth whilst setting.

Luna Park Sydney (originally Luna Park Milsons Point, also known as Sydney's Luna Park) is an amusement park located in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Luna Park is located at Milsons Point, on the northern shore of Sydney Harbour.

Luna Park is one of two amusement parks in the world that are protected by government legislation; several of the buildings on the site are also listed on the Register of the National Estate and the NSW State Heritage Register. The park has been utilised as a filming location for several movies and television shows.

I miss that day.

Clouds on fire.

Unfortunately, there's no way a photo can convey the atmosphere. If you squint your eyes, you can see the pillar of light rising from the sun. So pretty.
