克鲁格曼以经济学家的严谨博学和专栏作家的激情明快，清晰地表达了Libral的经济和政治诉求。有一点遗憾的是，这本书在经济政策分析方面多是给出数据和事实，而没有给出更多逻辑论述，这多少让慕经济学家之名而来的读者有点失望。比如，新政时代的高税收高福利政策为什么没有如保守派经济学家宣称的那样毁掉经济增长，这是需要解释的。另外，中译本的书名明显是误译。我们一般把Libral称为“自由派”，而不是自由主义者，因为美国的Libral顶多算是自由主义者的一支，即自由左派或新政自由主义者。比较而言，他们的对立面保守主义者
