Macro photograph of a bee perched upside down beneath a very pale mauve crocus flower, amidst a clump of similar crocuses. The bee is completely covered in yellow pollen grains, except for its wings, eyes, and antennae. The crocus flowers are visible from the side, their petals pointing upwards, only partially revealing their bright orange-yellow central parts. The bee is resting after feeding on the flowers.

As usual at this time of year we have people on worried about having a bumblebee ‘hive’ in their garden.
‘Are they dangerous?’
‘Should I have them removed?’
‘Will they be there forever?’
Here’s a quick #bumblebee #lifecycle thread to explain.
Please #repost / #share for the #bees.

Five second video of a parasitic cuckoo wasp at one of my insect hotels. I love how their antennae are always in motion. And their huge eyes. And their metallic color. But huge pain to ID. #InsectHotel #BeeHotel #CuckooWasp #chrysididae #insects #bees #wasps

Please leave the leaves. And make a vow: no more leaf blowers!

Cutaway drawing of a bumblebee queen hibernating inside a leaf-covered nest in the corner of a yard beneath the snow.
Text says:
MOST BUMBLEBEE QUEENS NEST JUST BELOW THE GROUND OR UNDER PILES OF BRUSH IN WINTER.
LEAVE THE LEAVES. BAN THE LEAF BLOWER. IN THE SPRING, AVOID RAKING, TILLING AND MOWING UNTIL THE QUEENS EMERGE FROM THEIR WINTER NESTS IN MAY.

My youngster is selling hand made badges and stickers of their own artwork. Or trying to - only had one order so far. If you want to support an autistic teenager, please have a look at https://store.eva-jane.uk/ and see if anything tickles your fancy. It's mostly fan art, though there are some originals. (I especially like the bees!) Posts worldwide at cost. She also takes commissions if you like the art style.

Feel free to boost! :-)

Did you know? When bees grow s, they don’t always make it back to the hive. Instead, they spend their last night resting gently on a flower beneath the stars. If they see another sunrise they gather a last bit of pollen

I hear you, this SOUNDS like a bum-blebee. But this behemoth is actually a Southern Carpenter Bee!

I love their shiny-goth carapace so much 🖤
