Feeding the gulls at Sandgate

#Photography #Brisbane #Meanjin #Sandgate #birds #Seagull #Gull #BirdsInFlight #BirdPhotography #WildlifePhotography #NaturePhotography #Olympus #OMSystem #Darktable #Beach

A Silver Gull in flight over a beach, banked steeply so its wings form a near-vertical line, one wingtip near the top of the frame and the other near the bottom. The bird has a white body, grey upper wings with black and white wingtips, an open red beak, and orange legs jutting from its underside towards the camera. Its head is turned up and to the left, towards a small chip/fry in the air just beyond its beak. The sky behind is clear deep blue, paling towards the horizon, with a few small white clouds. Below the bird is a wide flat beach of wet brown sand crossed by shallow pools and channels of water. Further back, a band of blue-green sea with small white waves meets the horizon, where a faint line of low land is visible.

I'm running an #iNaturalist Bioblitz at #Barrambin / #VictoriaPark this Saturday, 9 am.

Let's record as many species as possible before GIICA fences off most of the park.

9 am, saturday 23rd of May, victoria park / barrambin (meet at the function centre bbqs)

Join us for a community Barrambin BioBlitz to help document the incredible plants, animals and fungi of Victoria Park Barrambin. This morning workshop will introduce attendees to the iNaturalist app and show how simple observations can contribute to a growing public record of biodiversity in the park. After a short intro, participants will head out for a wander to photograph and record what they find, before coming back together for discussion, help with identifying species, and a potluck morning tea. Please bring a little something to share if you can. No expert knowledge is needed, just curiosity, a phone or camera, and a love for this precious inner-city green space. Long pants and enclosed shows are recommended, especially for anyone keen to explore shrub areas of venture off the main path.

GIICA want to fence off most of #Barrambin / #VictoriaPark this Monday 1st of June - in less than 3 days!

This is 6 years before the games, without having released a construction plan for the public to review.

That would require kicking out the First Nations camps on this culturally and historically significant site – during National Reconciliation Week.

Our green lungs are being sold off.

See below what we can do.

Please boost 🔁

Map of area to be fenced off, released by GIICA. Most of the park would be blocked from public access. The location of the "future brisbane stadium" is not even known, it says "inidicative scale and location only".

Lots of people in Brisbane ridiculing the absurd laws against saying the words river and sea. Crisafulli and the LNP deserved the mockery they received. Israel is a terrorist state.

A diverse group of protesters marches together, holding various signs. One prominent sign, held by a person with their back to the camera, features bold text that reads, "FRMO TEH RIEVR OT TEH SAEz"

Good kite surfing weather

#Photography #Darktable #Brisbane #Meanjin #Sandgate #Queensland #Kitesurfing #Kiteboarding #Beach #Ocean #Seascape #BlueSky #OMSystem #Olympus #MicroFourThirds

A man walks across a grassy bank towards the sea, seen from behind. He wears a black top, black cap with neck guard, black shorts and a black harness around his waist, and carries a red and white striped kiteboard under one arm. Below the bank is a wide beach with long shallow pools of water between sand bars, and a few other people are near the water. The sea is blue-green with small white waves, and low grey hills sit on the horizon. The sky is bright blue with a band of white cloud, and a dark kitesurfing kite is in the air above the water to the left. The foreground grass is dry and brown, with taller green grass, a few weathered wooden posts and a tree stump at lower right, and a sparse shrub at the right edge.
