Beware flying murderbots!

Actually, there have been far fewer yellow-legged or Asian hornets (Vespa velutina; 🇩🇪 Asiatische Hornisse) this year than last – this is my first since April, while regular European hornets have been common.

Still, always a little chilling to see these invasive predators.

A picture of a hornet in flight seen almost side-on against a background of out-of-focus green ivy. The hornet has a yellow-red head with a black mouth, red compound eyes, and reddish antennae. The thorax is predominantly black, with some fine hairs on top. The abdomen is a mix of black and yellow on the various tergites and sternites, with fine hairs visible on the underside. The legs are dark at the top, but characteristically yellow in the lower sections. The wings are dark amber clear.

A more head-on view of the same hornet, showing the yellow-reddish and black face in more details, along with the yellow legs dangling below as it flies.

A close-up of a vibrant blue flower spike surrounded by a lush green background. The flowers are densely clustered with tubular shapes, showcasing a rich hue of blue and violet, which contrasts sharply against the green foliage. A bee is captured in mid-flight, positioned slightly to the right of the flower spike. The background is blurred, emphasizing the detailed textures of the flower and the bee. The sky above is bright and clear.

A vibrant cluster of purple flowers reaching upward against a bright blue sky. The flowers, characterized by their elongated, conical shape, are densely packed with small, tubular blooms that vary in shades of violet and deep blue. Each bloom has a distinct star-like structure on the tip, contributing to a textured, spiky appearance. Scattered among the flowers, a honeybee is perched, highlighting the interaction between the flora and fauna. The lush green leaves beneath the flowers create a rich backdrop, enhancing the colors of the blooms above.

🛀 Bathhouse Number 8, Tskaltubo, Georgia

Part of an extensive Soviet health resort, facility fell into ruin after the USSR's collapse in 1991.

The space is an empty ruin, but there are several beautiful details. The dividing walls feature fascinating stylised deer murals. Also shrubs and a small sapling grow in the centre, nature reclaiming concrete.

I still don't get what's the big deal about corn on everything

#LosAngeles #California #Photo #Photography #LetyDoesSelfies

Photo of Lety sitting at an outdoor dining table holding a fish‐shaped, corn‐flavored ice cream sandwich with a big bite taken out of it during high noon. From top to bottom, her visible attire consists of: a floral red sundress. Lety is sitting on a brown metal chair at a matching outdoor dining table, holding her phone in her right hand to take a top‐down selfie that focuses on her torso. In her left hand is a corn‐flavored store‐bought samanco, the wrapper of her frozen dessert on the table in front of her, and green artificial turf around the floor behind her. Lety's late, former, ex‐fiancée… she'll never find the right words to describe their relationship, but someone Lety loved very much loved corn‐flavored everything. She's still trying to adjust to her lover's palette, three years after she's gone. A basic transcript of the samanco wrapper follows.

At Lake Quinault trying to understand dark filters and bulb exposure! This is a reasonably dim area and a 10% filter so at least some of the images I took today required 12 second exposures. Pretty cool stuff! Probably a million other pictures of exactly this little stream but these are mine! R7, 16-35 L, f2.8 ultrawide and an 85mm L, f1.2 portrait!

Photograph of the upper parts of buildings of different periods and styles, showing windows and roofs, taken from a street higher up. In the foreground are older houses: the one on the left, dating from the 19th century, has a rust-stained white sheet metal roof and a gabled window; in the center is a narrow green building, from the early 20th century, with a very large window with tiny panes and a sort of track fixed by several branches at the very top; and on the right is another 19th-century house with a steel-colored sheet metal roof and a cone-shaped weathervane on its roof. In the background are a three-story 20th-century block of red brick with rectangular windows, the square tower of St. Roch's Church, and the very recent Hotel Pur.

Happy #FishFriday;
Super happy with my latest endeavor at Video Candy. My first attempt at adding clips together with music I will not get in trouble over (I really just wanted FishHeads....) and text. A very insignificant portion of a very over priced art school education finally coming in handy. Art Institute only owes me back $59,995 dollars now.

A black and white photograph of a double window in the stone wall of a chapel. In the lower left corner is a one-way sign with the word "An ti fa" written in black on the white arrow pointing left, and a sticker with the words "Shao - Rafak - Skum" (street artist names) at the end of the arrow. The window has a simple, straight wooden frame and ornate wooden grilles inside, formed of small triangles. The stone of the wall is pale, its cracks and texture visible.

A high-contrast black and white photograph shows the almost black silhouettes of conifers on the right and leafless trees on the left, against a pale grey sky and the ground covered in white snow. In the very center, slightly paler than the other trees, stands the remains of a trunk, broken in the middle and riddled with woodpecker holes.

Black and white photograph of a pedestrian gate in a stone wall, part of the fortifications of Quebec City. On the left is the larger gate for vehicles, and on the right is the wall itself with a commemorative plaque. Through the gates, St-Jean Street is visible, lined with historic buildings, parked vehicles, and numerous pedestrians. Small patches of dirty snow melt at the curb, wetting the cobblestones and asphalt.

"Huddled in a Zodiac boat in icy waters off the Antarctic peninsula, I waited patiently for an Adélie penguin to propel itself from the water to the safety of an iceberg. Persistence delivered as I captured this penguin in an almost levitational-like state, as if posing for the camera”

An Adélie penguin is captured mid-air, frozen in a perfectly vertical leap high above a floating ice floe in icy Antarctic waters. The penguin's body is upright, wings slightly pinned to its sides, with a spray of water droplets trailing beneath its feet. In the background, calm grey-blue ocean water stretches toward a foggy horizon with a massive, pale blue iceberg towering in the distance.
