Maple syrup

At the sugar shack. April 2026.

#monochrome #blackandwhite #maplesyrup #quebec #photography

Black and white photograph of a shiny stainless steel boiler, into which maple water flows from a vertical faucet, through a pointed opening in a lid. This syrup is halfway through its manufacture and will be used to do some tests. Other buckets and buckets are in the background.

Photograph of a giant ladle used to assess the condition of maple syrup, with a very long handle, balanced on the rim of the boiler used to boil maple water, and getting lost a little in the steam coming from the hot liquid. To the right of the boiler and blurred in the background, a woman dressed in a winter coat washes her hands in a sink in front of a window.

Photograph of the upper left corner of a door frame and the brick wall to its left, showing some decorative elements inside a sugar shack. A black lantern with a light on inside hangs from the wooden frame, with a deer antler hanging on it. To the left on the brick wall hangs a small wooden tablet, with a few knick-knacks on it, from left to right: a swallow carved in wood, a decorative spigot with some inscriptions, and a mini plant watering can carved in wood and painted with two flowers.

Black and white photograph of the side of a stainless steel boiler used to evaporate maple syrup, about 8 feet high, and with a handle valve focused roughly in the center. The stainless steel reflects the light coming from a double front door, as well as the image of a brick wall, two women eating maple taffy and the photographer, leaning towards the valve.

I think it's time for a #reintroduction post. I've been on Mastodon since 2024 and hanging out at The Mended Drum for over a year, and I'm doing a bit of remodeling on my feed. I'd love to make some new friends, and I would also appreciate any hashtag recommendations to follow!

Sunrise from the east.

Oakland Estuary, California. 12 July, 2009.

A view from a ferry stern at the wake behind the boat. On the left are cargo ships on the Oakland dock with the sunrise light shining on the hulls. Shipyard crane arms are present. On the right is the flat land of Alameda. In the distance are the Oakland and East Bay hills, with a glowing sun just rising. There is a layer of cloud with a few breaks of sky.

Canadian columbine - Ancolie du Canada (Aquilegia canadensis)

#nativeplants #bloomscrolling #flowers #gardening #macro #photography

Macro photograph of a Canadian columbine flower, a drooping bell-shaped bloom, taken from the side, showing its red sepals and red petals ending in spurs at the top. Below the bell and in the center of the flower, the petals are yellow, and long yellow stamens protrude from them. Pollen from other plants nearby clings to the flower like strands of wool. The background is green.
