Sunrise in the Florida Everglades. The first light of morning was breaking through the pines, turning the sky warm gold while a thin layer of mist hovered over the wetlands below. I loved the layers in this scene—the silhouetted trees, soft haze and morning light slowly working its way through the landscape. A beautiful, quiet start to the day in the Everglades.

I captured this image in a garden near me in Sydney north late afternoon with the late sun showing the yellow petals and the recent rain droplets glowing.

Bright yellow Gerbera daisies are adorned with dew droplets. The stark black background enhances the vibrant petals and droplets.

The Survey Ship Farley, near Exoplanet 05843, first thought this was a normal comet. But once in range they found something strange. It’s a seed pod, from an interstellar flower. They are launched from this home planet into space. We assume they are launched to find other planets to germinate the seeds, but we have yet to find a planet that has been colonised. After being imported onto Exoplanet 74632, and the devastation they caused, they have been outlawed on all known planets.

This is a plant, or the seed pod of a plant. There is a green stem, and then there is a small round green ball. Sticking out of the ball are spines. They end in little hooks. I assume the tiny hooks are designed to hold onto fur and transport the seeds to far flung planets. There is a black background, so it could be in space. But probably not.

Independence Day (colloquial: the Fourth of July) is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating the Declaration of Independence of the United States on July 4, 1776. The Continental Congress declared that the thirteen American colonies were no longer subject (and subordinate) to the monarch of Britain and were now united, free, and independent states.

A black and white photograph of a narrow, very high waterfall cascading down a steep rock face in the middle of the Rocky Mountains. The photo is taken from the side, and the bottom of the falls is obscured by the angle. The lower slopes of the mountains are covered in a coniferous forest. In the foreground, the rocky slope is dotted with small, scattered conifers. In the distance, to the right, the mountains disappear into the white light.

A white butterfly resting on a vibrant purple lavender stalk. It has small dark spots on its upper wing, and its fuzzy body and antennae are finely detailed as it clings to the flower stem.

The entire scene is set against a lush, soft-focused green foliage. The blurred, vertical blades of grass or leaves create a beautiful bokeh effect that makes the main subjects pop.
