"South Carolina is now one of a dozen states with a statewide safety stop law. The details vary, but the basic principle has spread across red and blue states alike: people on bikes must slow down, yield to anyone with the right of way, and stop whenever safety requires it. Some states apply the rule only to stop signs; others also let riders proceed through red lights after stopping and yielding.” And in #SouthCarolina the bike friendliness extends further: "Right turns on red require slowing and yielding but not a complete stop.”
Thanks to the California Bicycle Coalition / #CalBike for their helpful chart, which includes:

CalMatters offers this amazing FREE service called My Legislator
It tracks every bill your California State Senator and Assemblymember introduce or vote on (and more) and sends you a weekly update
I caught the tail end of the beta last year, but the 2026 legislative year just started and it's up and running again
Highly recommend this for all residents in #California!
California schools will soon be able to easily search the names of bus drivers, janitors and other school support staff to see if they have substantiated claims of misconduct.
Why hasn’t a similar system for teachers succeeded?

A KQED-ProPublica report revealed how a teacher was allowed to keep his credentials despite being fired for sexually harassing students.
His current school district has replaced him as it investigates at least two new student complaints.

NEW: "I Got Access to Hundreds of Teacher Misconduct Complaints in California — and You Can Too"
In her five years of investigating teacher misconduct in California schools, reporter Holly McDede learned an important lesson: What seems to be secret isn’t always so — sometimes you just need to know who to ask, and for what.

Hey #California — you already know about CalPrivacy’s new Delete Request and Opt-out Platform (DROP) that will scrub your info from data brokers’ lists starting Aug. 1.
When submitting your request, some info is optional. For example, in addition to name, email, DOB… you can provide vehicle VINs and smartphone/TV tracking IDs.
It's all optional, but the more you provide, the more thorough the scrubbing! 🧼
HOWEVER, I was concerned: What if I provided ALL of this info, and then an unscrupulous data broker (hahaha, they are all unscrupulous) actually used all that info to link me to my devices and vehicles, when they had not yet previously.
#Privacy nightmare, right??

They have assumed that all operating systems are like Microsoft Windows 11, Android, or iOS; and have written legislation for operating systems where people download glorified WWW client 'apps', from 'stores', which use 'accounts' that they have with vendors or Microsoft/Google/Apple.
But the legislation *as worded* *also* covers everything from #Debian and #Ubuntu through #Arch Linux and #MobaXTerm to #FreeBSD and #NetBSD and #OpenBSD; where users anonymously use package managers or ports systems to install applications, written by developers, on operating systems, from 'publicly available internet website' repositories.
There is no age field in the GECOS data in master.passwd(5) of course, and the reality is that no BSD or Linux-based operating system has this concept of apps/stores/accounts.
