After our night in Padangbai we took the boat to Gili Trawangan to spend a couple of days. Our goal was the spend as much time at the beach as possible and we spent a couple days mostly lounging around and snorkeling

Olmeeks stenen hoofd in Mexico, Ed van der Elsken, 1960

#Olmeeks #Mexico #EdvanderElsken #Olmeek #OlmeckStoneHead #fotografie #photography #EdVanDerElsken #EdvanderElsken

http://www.rijksmuseum.nl/en/collection/RP-F-2019-298-4-10

This black and white photograph captures a large stone statue with deep-set eyes, pronounced brows, and an overall stern expression. The figure's head is framed by what appears to be foliage or grass at the bottom edge of the image, suggesting that it may stand in an outdoor environment. Above the statue, there are dark clouds against a lighter sky, adding a dramatic effect to the composition. This statue has been documented as Olmeek stenen hoofd (Olmeck Stone Head) by Ed van der Elsken from Mexico in 1960 and can be found at this specific URL for more information: https://images.loener.nl/EdvdElsken/full/6484/64844a2aba25398d90833f81.jpg.

Spotted another Blue Rock Thrush on September 21, 2026, at a beach near Wenling Metro Station.

A Blue Rock Thrush is captured mid-flight against a backdrop of crashing waves at the beach. The bird is taking off from a rock near the shoreline. The water is turbulent with white foam from the breaking waves, creating a sense of movement and wildness.

Some pretty ducks at the lake today.

Playing with framing up the image this time, just for something different. I think I like it - I might do it occasionally.

Caulfield Park, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

A close-up photograph of the head of a pacific black duck. It's head is in the centre of the shot. It has tan and black feathering, with alternating horizontal stripes. The top of its head is made up of black feathers, followed by tan and black feather stripes with a black feather stripe cutting through its eyeline, finally finishing with tan feathers under its head, along its neckline. From the side of its head running down its back is mottled tan and black feathers interleaved. Its beak is a black-ish colour but is slightly lighter than its black feathers. It has a brown eye with a black pupil. The image is square, and the beak is only partially visible in the photo. In the background is the water of the lake that the duck is in. Ripples are visible on the water emanating from where the duck's body is. The duck has a number of droplets of water on the top of its head.

How do you describe textures? Objects, sure. Colours, no problem. But what about those accumulations of fine details that add real feeling to a location?
