Florida at sunrise. I love walking the beach this early, when it’s quiet and there’s just a soft breeze coming off the ocean. A thunderstorm was building in the distance that morning, catching the rising sun and filling the clouds with gold. Such a spectacular way to start the day.

Winter in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains above Santa Fe, New Mexico. Snow blankets the trail, frost coats every branch, and the evergreens are dressed in white.

The stone corridors of Angkor Wat seem to pull you deeper and deeper into the temple. I loved the repetition of these ancient doorways, the worn stone, and the soft light finding its way through. That brilliant red eye and enormous spoon-shaped bill give the roseate spoonbill a face that’s hard to forget. Add those soft pink feathers and you’ve got one of Florida’s most distinctive birds. Their pink color actually comes from pigments in the crustaceans and other foods they eat.

My sister in law came up to the cabin this week to see the fall colors. The weather was mostly cold and windy until today so she was able to get the money shot early this morning when the lake was as smooth as glass.

The tree line from across the lake with the leaves in full color and reflection on the still water in mirror image.

There’s nothing quite like winter migration along New Mexico’s Rio Grande bosque. Thousands of Snow Geese suddenly filled the air, wings beating and honking from every direction, while the Sandhill Cranes below seemed to just stand there looking around like, what is all the fuss about? 😂
