A Mangrove Viper (Trimeresurus purpureomaculatus) spotted at Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve, Singapore on 22 Nov 2025. Venomous and usually hangs out on branches and, occasionally, railings, so best to be cautious.

“Monterey Cypress Trees, Cliffs and Surf” — Pacifc surf crashes against the base of cliffs with Monterey cypress trees.

Point Lobos and I go back a long ways. Shortly after my parents moved to the San Francisco Bay Area — I was four years old then — they began to take us on interesting day trips. A favorite was going to Monterey, which was a much smaller and quieter place then. A highlight of those visits was traveling a few miles south to Point Lobos, where we explored tide pools, walked the trails, and watched sea lions. This was one of the first places where I began to make photographs, likely with a simple Brownie camera and some black and white film.

Macro photograph of two flowers at the seed stage, showing two small balls covered with creamy white wings, ready to fly in the wind, at the end of their stem. The one in the foreground is in focus, the one behind is blurred, in front of a deep green background.

A pearl farm in Vietnam, where simple wooden homes seem to float quietly above the water. I loved the reflections and stillness here—the scene almost asked to be photographed in black and white.

A view from the Palace of Culture and Science in #Warsaw #Poland in a low/late afternoon sun

I revisited this photo from months ago and thought it might work better in #BlackAndWhite. So, here it is for #MonochromeMonday

#LandscapePhotography #UrbanLandscape #CityscapePhotography #City #Traffic #Bus #TravelPhotography #Photography #fujifilm #FujifilmXSeries #tamron

View of a street crossing from an angle above. Tiny cars driving on the roads. The low afternoon sun shines along one of the streets leading to the crossing, the sun lights a narrow band across the crossing, contrasting the surrounding shadows of the city buildings. Within the light band, a bus is taking a turn on the crossing. This literally highlights the bus against the other cars.

This is my favorite photo.

I took it 14 years ago, at a Carnaval celebration in the Mission and published it here once, in black and white. Posted and done. End of story.

Well not quite.

A couple of weeks ago I went back to my Lightroom catalog, took another look, and decided the photo looked much better in color. So here it is. A moment frozen in time.

I'm going to pin this for a while to remind myself to go out and take more street photos... because that is something that makes me really happy.

A photograph of a teenaged boy on rollerblades. He is dressed for a street fair, wearing a bright red, black, and white costume with a fan-like cape and matching, tall, plumed hat. He paused briefly for the camera, facing me and spreading his cape, wings to the breeze, before skating off to join the celebration.

Looking across a lake past wooded peninsulas on the right and left to a low ridge along the far shore. There are very tall trees on the lefthand peninsula. All land features are silhouetted against a sky filled with streaky hazy clouds gradually arcing upward to our right. This sky is mirrored on the lake below.
