Overhead view of a brass Tibetan singing bowl. About 3.5 inches in diameter. Allegedly handcrafted by artisans in Nepal. It came with a 5-inch-long dark brown wooden pestle-like striker that is used to start and maintain the singing. First you tap the outside of the bowl near the rim with the striker to start the ringing tone, then you run the striker slowly along the outside of the rim to sustain the tone almost indefinitely, taking care to keep the striker as vertical as possible. (Some compare the action to slowly stirring a pot of soup.) The sound is said to aid meditation and induce calm - and perhaps it does for many people. I personally find the initial tone quite pleasing and was amazed at how carefully moving the striker around the rim really does sustain the tone. Oddly, however, the movement of the striker can also greatly amplify the tone until (to my ears, anyway) it starts to sound just like an air raid siren. NOT the best thing to induce calm or a meditative mood but it might be a fun way to annoy those next door neighbors with the dog that never stops barking. Research continues!

Colonne Dupuy - #Toulouse

🇬🇧 horizontal monochrome low-angle photo of a monument column at the top of which an angel is illuminated by the sun. The sky in the background is immaculate, just crossed from the bottom left of the image to practically the top right of it by the trace of a jet plane, which can be seen at the very end. Like an arrow from an angel crossing the vault.

Glass Rhythm

📷️ Ricoh GRIIIX

#photography #photo #fotografie #color #ricoh #blackandwhite #monochrome #blackandwhitephotography #MonochromeMonday #Fotomontag #PhotoMonday #architecture #minimalism

This black-and-white photograph captures the facade of a modern building, shot from a low angle looking upward. A row of identical glass bay windows with dark metal frames stretches into the distance, creating a strict, repeating rhythm and a strong perspective. Clouds and the gray sky are reflected in the glass, making the building appear almost transparent and dissolving into the air. Inside, behind the glass, white columns are faintly visible. The image is built on pure geometry, rhythm, and the play of reflections, conveying the image of modern, minimalist urban architecture.

I'm happy that my acrylic painting "Black cat on an orange wall" won second place (tied) in the "Push the Edge" contest on Fine Art America in August 2026. Thank you to everyone who voted.

A black cat sits on the edge of a bright orange wall and looks to the left, where a row of orange steps leads up to the wall. The abstract background consists of delicate shades of orange and pink. The minimalist composition draws attention to the contrast between the cat and its surroundings. The contrasting colors create a striking visual effect and a harmonious, modern abstract impression. The contrast between the geometric pattern of the orange steps and the soft, flowing orange and pink tones in the background also emphasises the expressive impact of the painting.
Black Cat on an Orange Wall is a landscape-format acrylic painting hand-painted by the artist Karen Kaspar. The color choice is inspired by a warm and vibrant shade of orange, combined with pink, one of my favourite colours. Add to that one of my favourite motifs, a black cat. The result is an expressive, harmonious image that radiates warmth and cheerful vitality.

#round

A fibrous round that's a blue-purple color divided into seven sections by seven irregular orange bands. But what exactly is it? A cloth bracelet? No, it's not elastic enough to fit over the typical hand. A Cheerio dressed up for Mardi Gras? No, it measures 3 inches across - much too big for a cereal piece. An angel's halo with a bad infection? NOPE! It is, in fact, nothing more exotic than the cloth base that came with the Tibetan signing bowl I posted a photo of yesterday. The bowl sings loud and clear as it sits atop this ring of woven material that does nothing to dampen the sound. Although more functional than beautiful, and more of a supporting character than a star, it stands as a reminder that every round thing has a certain nobility to it and is worth celebrating. (Unless, of course, it really IS a Cheerio dressed up for Mardi Gras and I'm just too stupid to recognize the fact - in which case I sincerely apologize for misleading everyone.)

Black and white photo taken from above of a lone angler in a hooded rain jacket, crouched on a rocky riverbank beside a tackle box, with a tall fishing rod standing upright beside them. Rippled water fills most of the frame, and rocks and sparse grass cover the shoreline in the lower corner.

An abstract, highly out-of-focus photograph titled "Roller Toaster". It shows a close-up of the curved metal wires of a toaster's bun warmer. The intense motion blur makes the metallic lines streak across a light beige background, creating a dynamic, almost fluid appearance.
