#mosstodon Timeline

Inspired by the absolutely incredible photos of #fungi 🍄 posted by the ridiculously talented @arcturus recently, I took a shot when I ran into a shocking profusion of #mushrooms on my hike a couple of days ago. Alas, my very first #FungiFriday will also have to be a #shittember post. Even though I took dozens of photos, I got nothing I was hoping for. In fact (and I'll blame this on my exhaustion, the waning light, and my lack of eyeglasses), I'll be perfectly honest: I thought I was focusing on the mushroom in the foreground. 🤣 Anyway, here it is...

P.S if your country doesn’t have the freedom to roam https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_to_roam there’s something inherently wrong.

A sloping embankment of textured moss dominates the foreground, peppered with hundreds of tiny, stalk-like plants with rounded tips. These small botanical elements create a rhythmic pattern across the irregular surface of the ground. Rising from this base is a single mushroom supported by a slender, pale stem. Its cap forms a bell shape, exposing fine, radiating gills along its underside in muted tan tones. The sharp textures of the foreground transition into a soft-focus background where mossy greens and golden yellow hues blend together.

The emergence of all kinds of fungi made Friday's walk more interesting.

A decaying log and growing from it several small brown mushrooms with slender stipes and a bell shaped cap. Three calf are visible, but there are four or more stipes. To the right of the cluster of mushrooms a much smaller, dark brown mushroom.

A bunch of shaggy moss growing on a fallen limb. Lots of leaf litter and a mushroom with a creamy white stipe, slightly upturned cap showing part of the white underside of a grey mushroom: The gills are large and straight.

One of my favourite places on Dartmoor is Wistman's Wood, and I took a friend to see it, on a warm and sunny day, earlier this month.
A short walk from the road takes you to a boulder-strewn hillside, densely-packed with stunted oaks, mosses, lichens, and ferns; a small oasis of residual temperate rainforest in the barren expanse of the Moor.
It's a magical spot.
