The Island IV/IX.

Métis-sur-Mer, August 2026.

#sea #seascape #island #sunset #photography

Photograph of a small rocky island in the middle of the blue sea, with a subtle sunset sky above it, with bands of grey-blue clouds and a light barely yellow and pink. Three rocks protruding from the water are in front of the island.

Accidental and uplifting find - for a jaded, lifelong Beatles fan, who has seen a lifetime of documentaries & now 'reels'.

George was long a spiritual observer, a lone voice both by choice and exclusion, while 'living in the material world' during Beatlemania and beyond.

I'd thought of Ringo - lone voice too, to John & Paul - as the photographer. Of course Paul's wife Linda, a pro... But George through his (camera) lens! ♥️

Yesterday at 8:13 p.m., the #sun had officially set one minute earlier, and at 8:17 p.m., the #moon—88% illuminated—was reflected in a #puddle among the rocks, above Venus’s belt.
The last beachgoers were leaving under a very faint sun pillar.

The San Francisco Chinese Hospital,

This is a black and white photo in landscape format of the arched doorway into the former San Francisco Chinese Hospital with the remainder of the building demolished around it. Chinatown, San Francisco (2013).

Centred in the photo are the remains of the masonry entrance consisting on the outside of a few metres of vertical white brickwork but only a few bricks wide. Inside of the bricks are a pair of square white pillars with two ornate columns on the front. Within, is the wide arched entrance, perhaps a little less than two metres wide. On top of the archway is a horizontal masonry lintel with 'Chinese Hospital' on the left side, 东华医院 in the centre and 'Erected AD 1924' on the right side. On top is a tangle of bent metal and broken masonry. Visible through the archway is the demolition site of the former hospital with a large pile of rubble and steelwork to the right side. Again, visible through the arch and in the distance is the brick wall of an older urban building with numerous dark rectangular windows. To the right and above the arch are some city high-rise apartment buildings. Above is a clear and cloudless sky, rendered a milky white.

The image depicts a serene, black-and-white forest scene. A dirt path, covered in fallen leaves, winds through the woods, flanked by tall, leafless trees with intricate branches. The ground is scattered with leaves, and a wooden fence with a small gate is visible on the left side of the path. The atmosphere feels calm and slightly mystical, with soft light filtering through the trees, creating a tranquil and timeless ambiance.
