La imagen es una fotografía en blanco y negro tomada en el Balcón de Europa, en Nerja, en agosto de 2017. La foto está tomada a mediodía lo que genera el contraste marcado y la luz cenital formando sombras cortas y muy definidas bajo los pies.

En primer plano, sobre el suelo empedrado de mármol con un llamativo patrón geométrico en forma de estrellas de ocho puntas, mi pareja y por aquel entonces mi única hija posan chocando las palmas de las manos en el aire, en una pose dinámica y divertida. Mi hija, a la izquierda, viste una camiseta clara, una falda blanca y una visera, con el brazo extendido hacia arriba. Mi mujer, a la derecha, es más alta, lleva un sombrero de ala ancha, gafas de sol, un top estampado y pantalón corto claro, con el brazo también extendido para completar el gesto.

Detrás de ellas se extiende la barandilla de forja característica del mirador, y más allá el mar Mediterráneo en calma, con algunas embarcaciones pequeñas visibles cerca de la orilla. A ambos lados se distinguen otros visitantes apoyados en la baranda, contemplando las vistas. El paisaje se completa con la línea de costa y una cadena montañosa escarpada que se pierde en la distancia, envuelta en una ligera calima típica de las horas centrales del día, bajo un cielo con nubes dispersas.

El tratamiento en blanco y negro acentúa los contrastes entre el suelo de mármol oscuro y las vetas blancas del enlosado, así como entre las siluetas de las personas y el cielo luminoso.

Esta es una fotografía en blanco y negro tomada al atardecer en la Cala Arena, dentro del Cabo de Gata-Níjar (Almería), un paraje conocido por sus aguas tranquilas y su entorno volcánico protegido.

En primer plano, sobre una orilla de guijarros y piedras redondeadas típicas de esta cala, aparecen dos figuras: una mujer adulta en bikini y una niña con bañador, abrazadas de forma cariñosa. Ambas están de pie justo en el límite donde la arena húmeda se encuentra con el agua, con los pies descalzos.
A su derecha se distingue una pequeña torre de piedras apiladas (un cairn).

El mar ocupa la mitad superior de la imagen, completamente en calma, con una textura suave de pequeñas ondulaciones que reflejan la luz tenue característica del atardecer. Al fondo, a la derecha, se recorta la silueta oscura de un promontorio rocoso que se adentra en el agua. El cielo aparece prácticamente despejado y luminoso, en tonos claros que contrastan con el mar y las rocas oscuras.

I love standing beneath piers, and the wooden San Clemente Pier is one of my favorites. I’m not even sure why. Maybe it’s the sound of the waves, the repeating pilings, or the way the light filters through.

Late afternoon sun, low on the Pacific horizon, turned the waves a beautiful emerald green.
