Those of you old enough to remember the 1950s and '60s may remember the opening theme to the TV show Dragnet.

It started with a four note motif: Dumm da Dum Dum. 🎵

And a disclaimer: "Ladies and gentlemen, the story you are about to here is true. The names have been changed to protect the innocent."

Followed by the voice of Sergeant Joe Friday: "This is the city: Los Angeles, California. I work here. I'm a cop."

A monochrome photo of Los Angeles being Los Angeles. The sky is gray and the city skyline, in the distance, beyond a sea of low-rise buildings, is faded in hazy softness. There are no angels.

Between shadows

#fensterfreitag #windowfriday #photography

Photograph of a single window in a stone wall, with the organic shadow of a tree on the right side, and a rectangular column and its shadow on the left side. Blue sky is reflected in the window. Bars can be seen on the interior, with a cross motif in the bottom part of the window and a triangular motif in the top part. The grey rectangular stones have some light pink, blue and green in them, and are textured with lines and dots.

In messing about with the V & A building photos I forgot about My Favourite Thing in Dundee.

LEMMINGS!

Oh how I loved that game.

#photography #Scotland #retroGaming

A photo of the Lemmings statues in Dundee. It is a stone pillar with a brick laying bridge building lemming at the bottom, a climber half way up, and one at the top looking into the distance, holding on to the peak of the top stone. It is lovely. Behind it you can see public gardens, with some pink flowers, a mini bandstand and tall palm tree.

Fungi & Moss

#FungiFriday #Mosstodon #Mushtodon #Nature #Photography

A cluster of small, slender mushrooms growing out of a thick carpet of bright green moss. The mushrooms have thin, pale white or cream-colored stems and bell-shaped to slightly conical caps that are a warm, moist-looking brown or tan color, with some having darker centers.

A beam of sunlight illuminates the mushrooms and the moss, creating strong highlights on the wet-looking caps and stems, and casting deep shadows that add to the atmosphere of the image.

on the edge

#monochrome #blackandwhite #photography

Black and white photograph of plants and shrubs partially protruding from a field covered in smooth, white snow. The tracks of an animal, probably a deer, cross the image from bottom to top, curving to the left and following the edge of a trench in the snow, formed by a stream, invisible and hidden beneath the snow.

Was thinking of Dog Days of Summer which seems to have forgotten us here in the northeast 😆 And how it came to be a phrase... "When Sirius would appear in the sky just before the sun, near the end of July, that marked the beginning of the very hottest days of the year. The Romans referred to this period as "dies caniculares" or "days of the dog star," which was eventually translated as just "dog days."

A Mind in the past, Eyes on Tomorrow (2025)
‘On 8 December 2024, the Assad regime fell in Syria. After decades of dictatorship and years of intense war, it was a day that, like many Syrians, I never expected to witness,’ writes Fouad Hallak. ‘I left Syria in 2016 because of the regime’s violence and came to the Netherlands seeking refuge. For years, I could not go back. But when the regime fell, I knew I had to return...
