Photograph of a somewhat surreal coastal landscape, at the hour when the sun begins to descend into the sky. On the horizon line, an island almost in the centre, the coast far behind to the left, and three kayakers and a cargo ship to the right; in front of the island, seabirds on the water, the top of a rock emerging from the water and the shore at the bottom left. In the upper part of the photo, the bluish, wadded clouds form a cover or like a ceiling above the scene, with only the round sun barely piercing in the centre and reflecting off the water. Above the horizon and island, below the clouds, the sky is pale blue with a soft yellow light illuminating the water and the entire landscape.

A black and white photograph of Clevedon Beach, I use the word Beach loosely here as it is simply shoreline rocks and pebbles really. Clevedon Pier stretches out into the Bristol Channel, lit by sunlight though increasingly coming under a cloudy sky.
Wales can be seen in the backdrop. At the right, middle, of the frame is a Hotel,which became disused, that is now covered with scaffolding whilst being turned into apartments.

Last year for my 50th birthday I treated myself to renting a motorboat on Sardegna (Italy), and my wife and I surrounded the island La Maddalena, where we found this beautiful bay with its azure blue water.

La imagen muestra el espigón del Puerto de Peñíscola visto desde la Playa Sur, en un tratamiento en blanco y negro que acentúa el contraste entre el cielo y el mar.

En primer plano, unas rocas oscuras y afiladas emergen del agua en la parte inferior de la fotografía, con pequeñas olas rompiendo suavemente contra ellas y generando espuma blanca que resalta sobre el tono oscuro de la piedra. El mar ocupa la mitad inferior del encuadre con una superficie relativamente calma, salpicada de leves ondulaciones y, hacia la derecha, algunas rocas sumergidas que rompen la lisura del agua.

Cruzando el horizonte de izquierda a derecha se extiende el muro de piedra del espigón del puerto, una estructura baja y alargada que se adentra en el mar. En su extremo derecho se distingue un pequeño faro de señalización marítima, elemento característico de la entrada al puerto de Peñíscola. Se aprecia también la silueta de una figura humana diminuta sobre el espigón, hacia la izquierda, que aporta escala a la construcción.

La parte superior de la imagen está dominada por un cielo con nubes dispersas de textura suave, iluminadas de forma que sugieren la luz difusa y horizontal propia de la mañana. El degradado tonal, de nubes más densas a la izquierda a un cielo más despejado hacia la derecha, junto con el reflejo tenue en el agua, refuerza la sensación de calma y de una atmósfera matinal típica de la costa mediterránea.
El conjunto —horizonte marcado por la línea recta del espigón, textura rocosa en primer plano y cielo nuboso— produce una composición minimalista y muy propia del blanco y negro marino, con fuerte contraste entre las zonas claras del cielo y agua, y las zonas oscuras de las rocas y el muro del espigón.

We waited for the last light to fade over Bandon, Oregon for the Milky Way to become visible through the misty air, such a privilege to witness this wonder. There's something amazing about how vast, mysterious and beautiful it is.

On the boat back home from our holidays in Scotland we watched seagulls hunting for fish, for breed, for anything establishment and available. Shot some nice pictures there with my Nikon D7500.

Es una fotografía en blanco y negro de una terraza amurallada con vistas al Mediterráneo, en la zona antigua de Peñíscola, cerca del Castillo del Papa Luna. Un cañón antiguo apunta hacia el mar y un árbol de tronco grueso domina la izquierda del encuadre.

El tronco del árbol ocupa el lado izquierdo, desde el borde superior hasta el suelo. Está a contraluz y casi en silueta, pero se distingue bien la corteza rugosa y un nudo pronunciado. Arriba asoma un grupo de hojas oscuras que enmarca el cielo por ese lado. El árbol crece dentro de un parterre bajo de piedra, con algo de vegetación pequeña a su pie.
En el centro, sobre ruedas de madera, hay un cañón de hierro oscuro. Su boca apunta hacia arriba y a la derecha, en dirección al mar. Se ve en contraluz, con algunos detalles de relieve en la culata y el cuerpo. Su sombra se proyecta sobre el suelo de piedra.

Una muralla de mampostería recorre la escena de izquierda a derecha. Tiene tramos a distinta altura y algunos huecos pequeños tipo aspillera o rejilla. En el tramo central se ve una barandilla metálica sencilla. Al otro lado de la muralla se extiende un mar en calma, con un horizonte limpio y recto.
El suelo mezcla grandes losas planas de piedra con un empedrado de cantos rodados dispuestos en franjas y dibujos. Estos guijarros están en primer plano y aportan mucha textura.

La luz de la mañana entra desde el lado del mar, casi de frente. Por eso el cielo y el agua quedan muy claros, con un brillo suave y sin nubes marcadas. Las sombras largas caen sobre el pavimento y sobre la muralla. El contraste entre las siluetas oscuras y el fondo luminoso da a la imagen un tono tranquilo y algo nostálgico.

“Monterey Cypress Trees, Cliffs and Surf” — Pacifc surf crashes against the base of cliffs with Monterey cypress trees.

Point Lobos and I go back a long ways. Shortly after my parents moved to the San Francisco Bay Area — I was four years old then — they began to take us on interesting day trips. A favorite was going to Monterey, which was a much smaller and quieter place then. A highlight of those visits was traveling a few miles south to Point Lobos, where we explored tide pools, walked the trails, and watched sea lions. This was one of the first places where I began to make photographs, likely with a simple Brownie camera and some black and white film.
