A natural #window to the #Mountains

The upper part of the ascent to #Wendelstein is a steep path carved into the rock, with a short, dark tunnel. This was the beautiful view through one of the ventilation holes.

Auf einer Demo im Rostocker Stadthafen ist mir neulich eher zufällig ein Wimmelbild gelungen. Die Aufnahme eine Sekunde später zeigte nur noch das übliche Durcheinander an Menschen. Aber hier fügt sich für mich alles zusammen. Vorder-, Mittel- und Hintergrund, mehrere kleine Geschichten, ein herausstechendes Motiv und als kleiner Witz die Fahnenstange, die optisch aus dem Kopf wächst. Normalerweise bevorzuge ich ja eher aufgeräumte Kompositionen. Bei Matt Stuart habe ich zuletzt Gefallen an solchen komplexen Fotos gefunden. Und auch wenn mir fast ausschließlich farbige Vertreter dieser Gattung einfallen – mir gefällt dieses hier in Schwarzweiß besser.

I recently succeeded in capturing a complex scene—more by chance than anything—at a demonstration in Rostock’s city harbor. The shot taken just a second later showed only the usual jumble of people. But here, everything comes together for me: the foreground, middle ground, and background; several small stories; a standout subject; and, as a little joke, the flagpole that seems to be growing out of the person’s head. Normally, I tend to prefer more uncluttered compositions. Recently, I’ve come to appreciate such complex photos through Matt Stuart’s work. And even though I can think of almost exclusively color examples of this genre—I actually like this one better in black and white.

Twice during the hike up #Wendelstein,
I thought I ran across a patch of Elephant skin lying around. I wonder what carved these fine lines in different directions? Scale: both stones are ~30cm across.
