hydrangea

small things, double joy

#bloomscrolling #flowers #macro #photography

Macro photograph of a hydrangea flower that has fallen onto frozen ground in winter. The flower is upside down, revealing the underside of its four yellowish petals with their parallel veins. The flower is frozen and stuck to the greyish ice. White snow is visible behind it in the upper left corner.

rudbeckia

small things, double joy

#bloomscrolling #flowers #macro #photography

Macro photograph of what remains of a dried black-eyed Susan flower (Rudbeckia sp.), forming a globe of reddish-brown scales at the end of a stem, like a lollipop, illuminated by the sun and contrasting against the very white snow.

two trees

#silentsunday #monochrome #blackandwhite #trees #photography

Black and white photograph of a winter landscape, showing a spruce tree on the left and a tree stripped of its leaves on the right, in a snowy field, with a snowmobile trail at their feet at the bottom of the photo. Behind, the snowfield rises and the long shadows of the forest are cast on the smooth surface, forming a curve of tree silhouettes in the upper left corner.

This is a close-up portrait format photo of flowers growing in a garden. The three primary flowers are at different distances, but line up nicely from the foreground to the background. The flower in the middle is in crisp focus while the other two are slightly blurred. The flowers have lavender coloured petals with yellow centres.

"Take my breath away" is what I dubbed this one, for what other reaction is there to a sight like this, when you look down from Aprez-Vous summit to the Jackson valley, and up at an atmospheric river from parts unknown, bringing what we desire most of all: fresh powder. It's past equinox; it won't be long now...
