I wish people don't hang padlocks on bridges, but the orange body and the rusted shackle on this old lock look beautiful together. 🔒 🌉

Closeup of an orange padlock with a heavily rusted shackle. An outline of a heart on the body. The lock is placed on the crossbars of a bridge, but the bridge itself is not visible.

Long Eaton/UK

What genre would you class your music as?

Indie, Folk, Indie Folk and Pop

For Fans Of?

Dolores O’Riordan, Sinéad O’Connor and Alanis Morissette

Where can people connect with you?

You can connect with Romy and listen to her music by clicking this link https://linktr.ee/romyrosongmusic.

What release are you most proud of?

I wrote Tattooed Skin in mid 2023 after drawing all over my arm during an English Class at school. Which Inspired me to come up with the title of Tattooed Skin. Later I went out busking to raise money for the incredible charity that is Broxtowe Women’s Project.

This then gave me the idea to record and release my song for them as a charity single. Since it’s release in 2024 ‘Tattooed Skin’ has grown in so much meaning for me as I continued to work with Broxtowe Women’s Project and have had many conversations surrounding the song at my gigs.

You can donate to Broxtowe Women’s Project by following this link: https://broxtowewomensproject.org.uk/donate/

In addition since writing this interview Romy has released the remarkable Finally Done.

What are the songs you would recommend to new listeners?

This song started with me watching the TV show ‘Gentleman Jack’ with my mum. I wrote the song Inspired by the show encasing themes of forbidden love, danger and secrets within my lyrics. Inspiration for Surreptious came from the forbidden love and relationship between Ann Walker and Anne Lister who lived in the 1800’s as well as the countless queer people who were forced to live their life in secret.

Lucy’s song is incredibly poignant and I wrote it as a dedication to someone in my community who we lost. She was the same age as me, 17 and her name was Lucy. I wrote this song for her and about the countless systems that need changing and replacing resulting in catastrophic failures. Lucy’s Song channels the anger and grief felt by victims of a failing system including Emma, Lucy’s mum.

When can we expect some new music?

I am currently working on several projects while focusing on building connections with live audiences and aiming to start sharing my next project in 2027.

Who would be your dream collaboration?

I would love to collaborate with Georgie (Girlband) as she is an incredible songwriter with an amazing voice and talent.

Where can people next catch one of your shows?

03/10/26 – Beeston Oxjam

10/10/26 – Derby Folk Festival at the Wardwick

What is the goal for the next 12 months?

My goal for the next 12 months is to build my live audience and connect to different people through my music.

What is your message to new listeners?

Thank you so much for supporting my music. It means so much to me as a songwriter when people enjoy and connect to my music. As an original music artist I love sharing my music with new people and different audiences. Thank you again for supporting me on my journey.

I gather honeycombing in rock is called tafoni. Much honeycombing is weather - related, but here the park ranger says it is helped along by people digging into the soft cliff material.
#Photography #LincolnBeachOregon #Tafone #Tafoni #BeachCliffs

This is a photo of a seaside cliff made of mudstone and siltstone. The colors are in bands, representing various geological processes over time. The top band is grayish yellow, a mix of dune sand and volcanic ash, apparently from the Pleistocene. Below is a golden yellow band and then a red and umber band, formed from ancient sea beds in the Neogene and Paleogene eras. I am not much of a geologist, so this is handwavy. However, the interesting feature here is the small cave and the cliff wall riddled with small holes, like a honeycomb. These are called tafoni, and are the result of erosion of the soft cliff material. This honeycombed cliff wall is partly the result of people digging little holes, and the high tides further eroding them, making the holes deeper and smoother. You can see sand flowing at the bottom, which is added to the beach. There is a small park at the top of this cliff, and who knows how long it will last?
